Plan from teaching flow, not furniture count

Describe how students enter, collect materials, receive instruction, perform work, clean the area, and return equipment. The layout should support this sequence without creating avoidable crossing between active work and circulation.

Teacher sightlines and access to each work group should be reviewed alongside bench capacity. A layout that fits more seats is not automatically the better teaching layout.

Choose shared and individual services deliberately

Decide which utilities must be available at every position and which can be shared. Service locations affect bench orientation, student movement, worktop openings, maintenance access, and how the room is reset after lessons.

Where controlled extraction or specialist equipment is required, coordinate it as a separate project input rather than assuming a standard teaching bench covers the need.

Separate storage by access and responsibility

Student consumables, shared equipment, teacher-controlled items, cleaning materials, and personal belongings have different access needs. Label these categories on the room plan before assigning cabinets.

Storage decisions should also consider inventory visibility, cleaning, replacement, and the way materials are issued and collected during a class.

Confirm accessibility and local requirements

Reach, knee clearance, work height, circulation, supervision, emergency provisions, and accessibility criteria must be reviewed against the project location and institution requirements.

Provide those requirements during technical review so they are recorded in the approved furniture and room documentation rather than inferred from reference images.
