Define exposure at each work zone
List the materials and methods used at each bench, including concentration, temperature, frequency, spill likelihood, and expected contact time. Separate normal use from accidental exposure and from procedures requiring dedicated containment.
A material that suits dry instrument work may not suit repeated wet chemistry, high heat, aggressive cleaning, or heavy point loads.

Review the complete installed surface
The worktop is more than a sheet material. Joints, edges, upstands, sink cut-outs, service penetrations, sealants, fixtures, and interfaces with equipment can influence cleaning, durability, and exposure.
Provide sink type, fixture positions, worktop openings, wall conditions, and equipment support details before fabrication drawings are approved.

Compare maintenance and lifecycle expectations
Ask how the surface will be inspected, cleaned, repaired, and replaced. Consider stain visibility, color stability, damage repair, spare material, replacement access, and whether local maintenance teams recognize the selected system.
Do not treat appearance or initial price as a substitute for verified compatibility with the intended laboratory process.

Record the approved basis
The quotation and technical approval should identify the exact material, thickness or build-up where relevant, color, edge and joint treatment, sink integration, cut-outs, and any stated limitations.
If a tender cites a standard, test result, or brand-equivalent requirement, verify the applicable document and product scope rather than relying on a generic material description.
